Honoring our traditions. Building our future.

Jim Schmidt Initiative

We are undertaking a campaign to honor and memorialize faculty and coach emeritus Jim Schmidt who passed away unexpectedly this winter.
Many of us knew Jim Schmidt as a mentor, coach, teacher and friend. During his 45 years at University Liggett School, he influenced thousands of students and we believe that it is only fitting that his legacy lives on in perpetuity at the school. Although a final decision has not yet been made, the school is considering several permanent naming opportunities to best honor Jim and his love of athletics.
Honoring Coach Schmidt’s legacy by making a memorial gift in his name is one of the best ways we can say “thank you” for all of the wisdom and compassion that he showed us during our time as students, alumni and colleagues.
All donations of $5,000 and above will also allow donors to place a personalized paver in the courtyard of the Boll Campus Center. We ask that you please make your gift by this fall so that we may announce the successful completion of the campaign during Homecoming 2019 (September 27-28) where we will celebrate Coach Schmidt and recognize his myriad contributions to University Liggett School.
If you have any questions about this campaign, please contact Cressie Boggs at 313-884-4444, ext. 413 or cboggs@uls.org.
We hope that we can count on your support so that we may honor Jim and remember his impact as an educator, coach and friend to many.
